Self-Profile Write Up for Raymond Ralph Shong (For May 2020)
This is Raymond Ralph Shong. I am your English, Social Studies and History tutor. I have been teaching for almost 30 years. I have been giving tuition for more than 33 years (since 1988). Prior to my tutoring career, I have embarked in the IT industry for more than 17 years both in the MNC and SME companies in Singapore. During these 18 years, I have crafted out my career in various companies: banking, education, retail, manufacturing and customer service sectors. Currently, I am now a full time tutor. I am in full force to create my own tuition brand and tuition centres with my partners. I have taught in a secondary school in Bishan (Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary school from Feb 2009 to Feb 2016). I have taught English, History and Social Studies subjects in the school from secondary 1 to 5.
During my teaching and tutoring career, I have taught more than 500 students and the numbers are gradually growing. I have taught in the following places for all these years in:
- Commercial school.
- Primary & Secondary schools.
- RC centres.
- Church.
- Tuition centres.
- MNC companies.
The 21st century pedagogy is totally different as compare ten to twenty years ago. The learning process is a brand new holistic approach for our next generation. This tuition is greatly emphasized on the following:
- Develop Leadership qualities for students at all levels.
- Motivate students to study hard and smart.
- Ability to manage the study stress and do well in the future career.

The arkcrest.com was designed and founded by Mr Raymond Ralph Shong on 18 Oct 2003. A full time tutor for 6 years (from Sep 2002 to Dec 2008), Raymond has been giving tuition for more than 23 years. Prior to his tutoring career, he has embarked in the IT industry for more than 18 years both in the MNC and SME companies in Singapore. During these 17 years, Raymond has crafted his career in various companies: banking, education, retail, manufacturing and customer service sectors. Currently, Raymond is teaching in a secondary school in Bishan. Since Feb 2009, he has been teaching both History and Social Studies subjects for Secondary 1 to 5.
Raymond’s passion in teaching started since 1988 during his college years. During these 2 decades, he has taught more than 200 over students (primary and secondary) and the numbers of students are increasing. Students have come from his old neighbourhood estates from Ang Mo Kio Ave 4, Toa Payoh and Tampines. Students also come from all walks of life. Presently, he is conducting his classes in his residential place in Yishun Ring Road(near Khatib MRT). Apparently, he has recently started in his new pedagogy using online tuition. During the COVID-19 Coronavirus (Circuit Breaker from Apr to June 2020), Raymond has used www.dingtalk.com and Zoom to engage with my students Tuition Base Learning Online (TBL).
Raymond has also taught students in Diploma and Higher Diploma in Computer Studies and Project Management in a private school. His pedagogy ranges from young children to adults. Training programmes such as using Microsoft products and other software were conducted in a classroom environment both in a corporate and school environment. In the mid 2000s, he has also taught in one of the primary school to train students how to use the Microsoft Office and how to design website (using Dreamweaver tools) too. He has compiled and written many books like Microsoft Windows 3.11, 95 & 98, Microsoft Office 97, Outlook 2000.
Raymond published his first book back in 1994, the title of the storybook “The Unbelievable Eerie Ghost Stories” the respond was well-received by the students. Recently, Raymond has compiled yet another book and it took him ten years to make this book available to all. The title of this book is “The Guide Book to Better English” it was published in 2004. Many of his students have benefitted from this book and their English grades have improved tremendously. In fact, Raymond is always looking for new ideas and inspiration methods to write and compile books for students of all ages. The two books that are in the pipeline will be the “The Guide Book to Better Creative Writing Skills“ and the second edition of the book “The Guide Book to Better English” are in the process of compiling and editing.
Teaching is a great passion and desire for Raymond. Furthermore, he enjoys to see wonderful improvement in his students’ academic and personal performance (Leadership Quality) results. Raymond likes to motivate, inspire and help his students to accelerate to the next highest level of success and discipline. Raymond at times will also counsel and lend a listening ear to his students’ problems or inertia.It can be study related, parents-children relationship, peer-to-peer relationship or other issues. Raymond believes all students have the potential to excel in many creative and motivating manners. We just need that patience, care, support, understanding and love to encourage them to do well and be a good citizen.
